STRIVE’s Process Improvement Cycle for Math Instruction

1. Assess
Use data tools (i-Ready, FastBridge, AimsWeb, STAR, or STRIVE Diagnostic) to identify student needs.

2. Study
Place students on the Math Focus Folder and identify instructional needs in:
• Early Numeracy
• Addition & Subtraction
• Multiplication & Division
• Decimals & Fractions

3. Plan
Select the appropriate instructional pathway:
• Tier 1 – Core Instruction
• Tier 2 – Targeted Interventions
• Tier 3 – Intensive Interventions
• Leadership – Schoolwide Support
Use Focus Folder data to design instruction.

Note: Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycles are the best tool for planning and tracking growth—but teachers can also use this system without them.

4. Teach
Deliver instruction with daily Math Routines and Targeted Activities aligned to identified needs and chosen pathway.

5. Monitor & Measure
Track progress using STRIVE Progress Monitors or other formative tools.
PDSAs support consistent monitoring and reflection.

6. Celebrate Growth
Recognize success through Focus Folder movement, stronger data, confident teaching, and engaged learners.
